Shadowverse: Evolve – The New Omens Eternal Cards are Pretty!

The new Shadowverse: Evolve set is out, and it’s making me want to get into the hobby. I’ve played the mobile version in passing, but it never really clicked. The release of Omens Eternal made me download the app, and I am ready to give it a chance. The art in this set is so cool, I might just have to start collecting.

If you want to pick up Omens Eternal or any other Shadowverse: Evolve product, pick it up on TCG Player using my affiliate link. It really helps me out.

Wixoss TCG: Concord Diva Set List is out and it is Good

This game isn’t going to be for everyone because of how waifu-centric it is, but I’ve been enjoying the art, and the anime, and the game isn’t too bad. I preferred the art and flavor of Dissonance Diva better, but there are some cards in this set I wouldn’t mind adding to my collection. Make sure you always support your LGS, but you can always get Concord Diva on TCG Player using my affiliate link.

Kryptic TCG Returns Under New Management and Motivation!

Last week, the people behind Kryptic announced the end of the TCG and their plans to move to the LCG model. After a bit of feedback and a weekend to ruminate, Kryptic TCG isn’t dead! Fans of the TCG now wait as the company takes the steps to continue the TCG.

The Announcement

Tanner has announced on the official Kryptic Discord that he will be stepping down as CEO of the company and handing the company over to Chris Tesorio. The message reads:

The loyal Kryptic comunnity came together in full force for the game that they loved and now with a new name and newly found motivaition, Kryptic Studios LLC will work continue making the TCG.

The new CEO, Chris Tesorio, also made a statement:

It makes me happy to see Kryptic getting its second life. I can’t wait to see what is to come. Congradulations to Chris Tesorio on his new role, I wish him the best in his endevours.

What this Means for Kryptic

We are still waiting for more news from the new company, but plans for Kryptic as a LCG have been cancelled and new plans for the TCG are in the works. While I am a little sad about not seeing what an LCG in the the Kryptic universe would look like, I am happy to see that fans will get to continue to enjoy the game they love. I am hopeful for the future of this game and can’t wait to see what this new leadership and motivation will produce in the future.

Attonement

As a reminder for anyone who missed it, 100 boxes of Attonement Wave Zero will release on July 4th 12AM CST. Attonment was Kryptics cancelled set before the name change. The box will include single copies of the entire set, with a few random foils to mix things up. Sales will be limited to hopefully prevent scalping. It be nice to buy a box and have the complete set. I’ll be trying to get a box, I hope the fans who want one can get theirs too.

You can pick up your box of Attonement Year Zero on the Speedprobogames website for $119.99. Good luck!

Life After Pixelborn: My Adventures in Lorcana

Pixelborn has shut down, but my Lorcana journey will not end with it. While it was the best solution for playing Lorcana online, other options remain. Tabletop Simulator is a fantastic program for anyone trying to play their favorite tabletop games online. There are thousands of freely accessible mods available for download, including one for Lorcana. While this solution has its quirks, it is a solid solution. You can also check out untap.in which is a fine FREE browser-based solution for all your TCG needs, but it does require a bit of tinkering.

On an impulse, I opted for physical product. My buddy and I picked up an Ursula’s Return Illumineer’s trove and ran a draft using our pulls. A treasure trove is an 8-pack kit with special-themed dice, a cardboard spin-down counter, and a storage box.

The storage box looks nice, but it feels cheap. It is not surviving any serious wear and tear. The themed dice are nice, but not enough to chase treasure troves. I use the spindown because I paid for it, but there is no reason to use it over the app. I would have preferred buying packs instead. I know that it is always better to buy singles, but we enjoy cracking packs.

Drafting with eight packs is tricky because there aren’t enough cards for a two-color deck. We did three colors instead and reduced the deck sizes to 40 cards. We just shuffled the three colors we liked the best and enjoyed the randomness, but you can play without color restrictions and attempt to build a more coherent deck.

We played over Facetime and I had so much fun, I went and picked up a starter deck. If you’re getting into Lorcana, starter decks are a great place to start. Keep in mind that the decks are a little slow compared to meta decks, but they are good enough to build your foundation. My friend is pretty good at deck building. While he may be running decks he believes are fun, he had access to the better toolset. I still had fun, but now I need to fight to urge to buy more Lorcana.

Lorcana is a fun TCG that you can enter as casually as you like. The game is easy to pick up but with enough strategy to keep things engaging. Games do tend to become this race to 20, but it is a fun race that I enjoy participating in. As a collector, I love the art and quality of the cards. As a player, I enjoy the accessibility. Personally, I like that it gives me an excuse to hang out with a friend I hardly get to see anymore.

If you’re thinking of getting into Lorcana, find a playgroup and do it. Check with your LGS for a scene, or search one out if there isn’t one. I’ll be slowly amassing my collection as I continue to play casually with my friend.

Akora Shuts Down: Upcoming World Beyond set Cancelled

In a bit of unfortunate news, Akora TCG has shut its doors. The upcoming World Beyond set has been canceled, and those who have made their preorders will be refunded. All the alt cards will be shipped in the next few weeks.

This sad news was delivered suddenly on the official Akora discord.

The Discord is still up and populated, but all of the rooms are now locked.

It is sad to see the end of such a unique game, but it is unsurprising. While the game held onto its closely-knit and dedicated fan base, it was slow to gain traction outside of it. This isn’t from lack of trying. The community held events and actively promoted the game on social media, but people weren’t playing at the LGS. This is common in a market that is becoming increasingly saturated. People are either already invested in their favorite game, moving towards something familiar, or afraid to try something that might die in a couple of years.

I was rooting for Akora‘s success and was excited for World Beyond. I first got Akora because I wanted a cheap booster box to open. I fell in love with the cozy aesthetic and began watching the game closely. I sat on a few events and joined Discord and liked what I saw. The community was always welcoming and friendly. It felt like your close friends got together to make a TCG, and that was cool to see. They had a solid 3 years, and I’m sure the long-time fans got their money’s worth in good times and memories.

If you’ve never played Akora, it was a unique game with interesting mechanics and flavor. The game was easy to learn, and pretty intuitive once you got used to it. You’ll probably be able to pick up products for cheap soon, I recommend you pick up a couple of the theme decks and a few booster boxes to play with friends. You can still pick up Akora product on TCG Player using my affiliate link.

I wish the creator and community well. While today marks the death of Akora TCG, it will always live in our hearts.

WONDRLND is the Prettiest TCG With the Pretiest Promos

I started following WONDRLND because the art grabbed my attention. The art is spectacular across the board, and I love the use of color. The format of the cards looks so good, and the mechanics seem interesting. Their new set, Starlight Genesis, has some promos that I need for my collection. At the moment, only Binary-Mind is on sale on their store, but we can still window shop till more product becomes available!

Lorcana TCG: Ursula’s Return Card List Revealed!

Ursula’s Return releases this Friday, May 17th, and the set looks amazing! I definitely want to get my hands on that Ursula secret rare. I won’t ever get it, but maybe one of you will. If you haven’t already preordered your product, you can try your hand at the big box release. I don’t recommend feeding the scalpers, and I especially don’t recommend preordering singles. If you’re trying to get into Lorcana, I recommend buying into older sets until the prices stabilize a bit.

You can pick up Lorcana on TCG player through my affiliate link, but I would use it for singles for now. You can get sealed product of older sets at MSRP at Best Buy or Gamestop.

May 17 is also TCG Player‘s MAYhem promotion, where you can earn store credit on your purchase. It might be a good idea to hold off till then to earn that store credit. The amount has not been revealed yet. Stay tuned for that. If you need accessories for your cardboard, check out Gem Accessories. Use discount code churapereviews10 for 10% off your order.

WONDRLND TCG: Starlight Genesis is such a beautiful set!

I started following WONDRLD because the cards are so pretty. They are a little anime-heavy, but that is the appeal. I love the use of color, and the unique layout makes each card stand out. Their upcoming set, Starlight Genesis, is no exception. I would love to start collecting these because they are going to look sick in a binder. Maybe I’ll even make time to learn this one too.
