The Pokémon x Van Gogh’ Art Collaboration is so cute!

The Pokémon Company has partnered with the Can Gogh Museum in Amsterdam to produce some of the cutest and most unique products to come to the space. If you are a collector, or just need another excuse to go to the museum, this event is worth looking into. The exhibit will run from September 28 to January 7th, and you can access it for the price of a regular museum admission ticket.

The Exhibit

The collaboration intends to get the new generation into museums which I love to see. The museum will be hosting six pieces by an artist from The Pokémon Company where they fuse Van Goh’s iconic style with familiar Pokémon such as the Self-portrait with Grey Felt Hat (1887).

Snorlax & Munchlax inspired by The Bedroom
Sunflora inspired by Sunflowers

Pokémon Adventure & Pikachu Promo Card

The museum will also be hosting a Pokémon Adventure activity for kids ages six and up. Participants will be given a leaflet to fill out that will guide them through the museum and teach them about the artist in a fun interactive activity. The leaflet will be available in both Dutch and English and completed leaflets can be exchanged for a cute Pikachu promo card you are going to want in your collection. I am hoping the museum has a good way to mitigate the scalpers or greedy collectors. It would be a shame if the target audience for this event weren’t able to participate because there were too many greedy adults. I guess it won’t be a huge deal if it drives up attendance.

The Merch

But if you aren’t able to get your hands on the promo card, you can settle for some of the adorable exclusive merch that will only be available at the Van Gogh Museum’s gift shop. There is an adorable plushy, a cool tote bag, and more while supplies last. Purchases will also come with a copy of the Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat if any are available.

Conclusion

If you are in the area, make sure you go anyway. It is always good to support the arts. Even if you’ve seen pictures of the famous paintings at an exhibit, nothing beats being in the same room and being able to examine them up close. It is so cool to see how pop culture seeps into the classical. I love this collaboration because it creates this neat retrospective of art that I hadn’t considered. It shows how eternal some ideas have become, but also how these ideas continue to inspire and evolve. I bet Van Gogh never imagined he would have a whole museum dedicated to him, but here his work is, on a Pokémon card.

Premium Pokémon TCG Classic preorders sell out on the first day

Pokémon just announced their premium Classic TCG set, and it’s already sold out. This set takes players back to where it all started, to the classic era of Pokémon TCG, and it is beautiful. I mean it better look nice for $400. The set comes with everything a trainer needs including:

3 Preconstructed Decks

Sets will include iconic recreations from the base set including Venasaur, Charizard, and Blastoise, along with 3 specially constructed 60-card decks of corresponding elements. Also included will be brand new cards like Ho-oh ex, Lugia ex, and Suicune ex to shake things up. Unfortunately, aside from the energies, none of the cards will be standard legal which is kind of a bummer, but at least it’s not Magic 30.

High Quality Board and Pieces

The set comes with everything two trainers need to play, but I doubt it will get much play based on the set’s availability and pricing. The game board folds out like a nice chess board and holds all the game pieces. The board acts as a game mat with printed zones and a cloth top for games, but I doubt it will get much use. I wish they would print out cheap paper versions for those of us who would love to share some of this nostalgia with a newer generation of trainers.

Stylish Counters and Metal Orbs

The set includes sets of premium-looking burn, poison, and damage counters. The damage counters are color-coded for ease of use, and the poison counters look nice. What is interesting about this kit is that it doesn’t include dice or a coin, but this interesting roulet system for determining turn order. While the system might be fun the first few times, I prefer using dice. I would have preferred the inclusion of a nice collectible coin.

Deck Boxes and Sleves

With an expensive set of cards, you are going to need a way to protect them. The kit comes with three specially designed deck boxes and sleeves which I have some issues with. I get that they fit the aesthetic and they won’t get much play, but they are kind of boring. The deck boxes are fine, I enjoy the minimalism, but I don’t know how I feel about the sleeves. I guess it’s fine for a product that probably will never get shuffled.

Conclusion

The set sells for $399.99, but good luck finding it at this price after today. The set looks like a premium product and something with this much nostalgia is going to attract scalpers. I wish they released a generic cheap version with a paper mat and cardboard counters for players, but I guess it would make this set a little less special.

You can keep checking the Pokémon Center site for availability or hope it comes to a big retailer or LGS. I’ll keep an eye out, but with something this big, it’s going to be tricky to find it outside of a reseller. And make sure you like, comment, follow, and share this with your friends if you’ve been enjoying these updates.

The Cards Included!

Pokémon Trick or Trade Booster 2023 Card List

The Pokémon Trick or Trade boosters are back in time for Halloween! These fun three-pack cards are the perfect alternative to candy and solid gifts for the little trainer in your life. The Booster Bundles come with 50 packs and you can pick up the bundle at major retailers like Target ($19.99) or Amazon ($18.99). You might be able to find them even cheaper on TCG Player.

All 30 cards in this set have been revealed thanks to user Appleacres on reddit. Here’s the original post.

I’ve put the list together for a better view. There is nothing too exciting for players or collectors, but this product was meant to given out to kids and its a fun product. If you enjoy these updates, don’t forget to like, comment, follow, and share this with your friends!

I’m starting with the cutest of the reveals because it’s what has me the most excited for the set.

Pokémon TCG My First Battle coming September 29th

When the Pokémon TCG My First Battle was first announcedI didn’t pay too much attention to it. It was a neat idea, but I didn’t have any use for it at the time. I’ve since been playing a lot more into the game, but I would love some people to play with irl. I could spend the money to build a competitive deck and make time to go to a local league, but it would also be nice to teach people to play in a more casual setting. I have a few cousins and nephews who collect the cards that might be interested, so I did more research about the product and put in a preorder over at GameNerdz.

My First Battle offers a streamlined way of teaching younger players simplified fundamentals of the card game. The hardest part about any TCG is the overwhelming mechanics and rules that go with them. Pokémon is too hard to pick up, but I can see it being overwhelming for newcomers.

My First Battle is designed for younger players. It has simplified rules and mechanics to give players the necessary foundation to get started with the Pokémon TCG. This product is meant to be a solid jumping, but its effectiveness is yet to be seen. Decks have been streamlined to guide players through the different phases, terms, and mechanics.

The kits come with:

  1. 2 17-card mini decks
  2. 2 playmats
  3. A rulebook, a metallic coin
  4. A sheet of damage counters
  5. 6 prize tokens.

I went out and preordered a set of these kits to play with my nephew. I will be comparing its effectiveness as an introductory and see how it compares to the Pokemon TCG Battle Academy kit. Stay tuned for that review.

The kits hit stores on September 29 and will retail at $9.99 MSRP each. GameNerdz has a set of two on sale for $14.97. Free shipping is available after $75, which shouldn’t be a problem to hit. They have a lot of great deals on products you are going to want to fill your shelves with.

If you enjoy these updates, don’t forget to like, comment, follow, and share this with your friends!
