What is Cyber Manhunt 2?

Cyber Manhunt 2: New World is a hacking simulator puzzle game out now on Steam.

You work for the prestigious Titan Corporation as an AI assistant. Your job is to mitigate any threats to the company and its assists through the use of your incredible hacking skills and a bit of AI. Crawl across cyber space as you gather clues, crack passwords, and solve puzzles. Use a bit of social engineering to get the information you need your cases, and get to know some deep and memorable characters. Do you have what it takes to become the world’s best hacker?

Gameplay

Cyber Manhunt 2 is a point-n-click narrative game full of creative hacking themed puzzles. Players start each chapter with a case they need to work through. Players must comb through social media, hack email and other accounts, and even remotely access devices to get the information they need to crack the case. The game offers little guidance, forcing players to be resourceful with what they can access. Information can be missed, so make sure you comb through everything carefully.

Review

If you haven’t played Cyber Manhunt 2: New World, it should at least be in your library. This will be the most creative and interesting game you will play all year, and it is only $10.

The game has a fantastic aesthetic, with an epic soundtrack to get you hyped for hacking. The voice acting is mostly good, but there are a couple of awkward reads that stand out. They aren’t bad enough that they take away from the game, but it is noticeable.

The overall story is fantastic. This may be a sequel, but the narrative exists independently. I never played the first Cyber Manhunt, but I didn’t feel I needed to. You will want to play it after how good the sequel is, but you won’t be lost if you start at two.

The gameplay is fantastic. The hacking puzzles were creative, challenging, and a ton of fun. You might need a guide here and there, but figuring out the clues and slowly unlocking the narrative is a real treat. I love how much story exists within the puzzles. Texts and emails you read through, pictures you find, and posts you comb through all have bits of important world-building that give the story much-needed weight. You can skim through and only look for clues, but I enjoyed learning about the different characters and the world around them as I pieced things together.

If you’re looking for a new puzzle game, Cyber Manhunt 2 won’t disappoint. It is a cool and creative entry into the genre that you aren’t going to want to miss.

Super Puzzled Cat Review: A Cozy Puzzle Adventure

What is Super Puzzled Cat?

Super Puzzled Cat is an adorable jumping puzzle game out now on Steam. Players must make their way through the games 150 creative levels, trying not to die. Players can use items like jet packs, bombs, and even bubble gum to navigate around a levels many hazards. These puzzles may look cute, but they will test the most seasoned veteran. Aside from the adorable skin and creative use of items, the game features a unique save state mechanic. Players can create as many save states through out a level, and recall between them at will. This means players don’t have to start a level over after dying, they can take it section by section.

Review

Super Puzzled Cat is the cutest game in my collection, and easily one of my favorites. The game has some adorable art, a fun world to explore, and some very creative and challenging puzzles. I am not the biggest fan of jumping puzzle games, but Super Puzzled Cat has earned a soft spot in my heart. I like that the puzzles don’t feel frustratingly impossible like others in the genre, and the save state mechanic made things a lot more manageable. While the game does feel like a casual puzzle game, there is enough of a challenge to keep things engaging. I love it for the cozy vibe, and will continue to play it even after the review.

If you are looking for a new puzzle game that isn’t a huge commitment, or in the mood for some cozy engaging gameplay, check out Super Puzzled Cat. It works great on the Steam Deck.

Fledgling Manor Review: Vampire Drama in a Reality Show

What is Fledgling Manor?

Fledgling Manor is a visual novel out now on Steam. The first chapter is available as a demo for those interested.

Rocky wakes up in a strange place with an even stranger affliction. He has been turned into a vampire against his will and must now fight for his survival. In order to live his life as a new vampire, he must win the highly rated reality television show, Fledgling Manor. In it, newly formed vampires compete in a series of challenges to earn their place in the manor and live another day. But each day is marred by the execution of one unpopular soul. Will Rocky make enough of an impact to earn his new life as a vampire, or will he be another culled contestant?

Review

Fledgling Manor is an interesting concept for a narrative with cool artwork to grab a reader’s attention. This game has very cool character design, but I found the story lacking. The writing is a little too on the edgy side, and while the game does have its audience, it wasn’t for me. Some of the dialogue is a bit cringy, but by no means poorly written. The author does a great job creating its dynamic characters and capturing the spirit of a cheesy reality tv show. There is no voice acting, which I don’t think it needs any.

If you want a serious deep narrative about vampires, you will be disappointed. However, if you’re looking for a fun quirky story and don’t mind the edgy characters, Fledgling Manor is a solid piece. I recommend trying out the demo as it does a great job at setting the tone. If you find yourself not liking any of the characters, it doesn’t get any better. But if you enjoy the tone of the demo, congratulation, you are the target audience and you will find this visual novel delightful.

The game features multiple endings, enough for replayability, unique characters to engage and fall in love with, and a fantastic soundtrack to set the mood. You can pick up Fledgling Manor on Steam for only $11.75.

What is Sensei! I Like You So Much!?

Sensei! I Like You So Much! is a slice of life visual novel out now on Steam.

You have always enjoyed writing your fan fiction but never dared to share it with the world. This all changes when a chance encounter with a classmate gives you the push you need to start your writing career. Grow your following as you explore the world for your next story. What stories will your life inspire? Will you find the words that will move the world?

Gameplay

The game is split into a few different parts: customization , exploration, and writing.

Throughout the story, players will unlock new decorations for their room and character’s chibi. Decorations can also be bought with my money they earn from working. These decorations have no impact in the story, but it is a way for players to customize their experience.

The game gives players a finite amount of energy to spend on activities each day. The game does guide players through a few events for the progression of the story, but players can spend their days who they want. Events range from going to work, hanging out with friends, and even going to comicon. These events are slice of life stories that earn players money and materials for their stories.

At the end of the day, players will sit down and write their next fan fiction based on events from that day. Most of the story is prewritten, but players get to choose certain aspects of the story. The story is graded at the end, and the grade impacts the amount of followers gained each day.

Review

The game is still in early access, but it is in a good enough place where I can safely recommend it. Aside from a few translation issues, Sensei! I Like You So Much! is a cute story with fun characters that is worth reading at least once. It has decent pacing with wholesome quirky elements that make it the perfect cozy game for any occasion.

The art in this game is fantastic, especially if you enjoy cute and quirky anime. I was surprised by the amount of customization available. Players can outfit their characters, decorate their room, and even make their own room. The room customization is a lot of fun and I spent way too much time trying to find the right aesthetic that would be conductive to my writing, even though it had no tangible impact on the stories progression.

My favorite aspect of the game is the flavor. I enjoyed the struggle of training to come up with a good story, even though the story is already written, and the stress of planning out my day. Do I want to hang out with my friends or do I want go work to be able to afford that cute thing I want to hang on the wall? This was a constant struggle, but one I was more than happy to have.

Sensei! I Like You So Much! is the cute and cozy game everyone needs in their library. The idea is unique, the story is fun, and the art is fantastic. Check it out on Steam Early Access!

Deadly Days: Roadtrip Playtest Impressions

What is Deadly Days: Roadtrip?

Deadly Days: Roadtrip is a top down auto-battler roguelike dungeon crawler coming to PC.

The world crumbles under the weight of a zombie outbreak. Those left drive from place to place, searching for survival. Gas is finite, and sometimes you have to get out and find some more. Run across procedurally generated dungeons to collect enough gas to fill the tank and do your best to stay alive. Do you have what it takes to make it to the end of this horrible road trip?

Gameplay

All players start in the main hub where they can buy upgrades and customize their character between runs. Players then get to plan their supply runs where they can collect upgrades, weapons, and gas. Players are offered locations with different lootable supplies, so make sure you plan according. The game also features a day and night cycle that not only creates atmosphere, but adds a bit of challenge. The longer a player spends in a level, the more zombies appear. A run ends when the player runs out of health. What makes Deadly Days unique is its inventory management system. Players will always start with a limited amount of bag space, but can upgrade it either through special drops or by leveling up. When a player levels up, they can choose between a random weapon, item, or bag expansion. While the RNG does feel fair, it also means there are a lot of tough choices.

Impressions

I love this genre, and Deadly Days: Roadtrip has earned its spot in my rotation. It has a cute and playful art style, relaxing yet engaging gameplay, and solid flavor. If you want a cute casual game that doesn’t require a huge commitment, you’d be hard pressed to find better. This game is in such a good place in it’s development, and I am excited to see what a full product looks like.

The game runs well, but I couldn’t get it working on the Steam Deck. I hope it gets Steam Deck support in a later release. Combat is a lot of fun. Maneuvering through the maps is active and fun, and all the weapons feel different. Upgrades create a tangible increase in power, which is always nice to see. The procedural generated levels are well done. All the maps felt unique and they were filled with a diverse cast of zombies hungry for brains. My favorite feature of the game was the day and night cycle that made the levels feel more intense. I also love inventory management, so this game had everything I love.

I can see the game feeling a bit repetitive, especially in the early stages, but that is the charm of the genre. I feel like the maps and monsters give the game enough variety to keep things interesting.

Glitch Hero Review: A Fun Adventure for Kids

What is Glitch Hero?

Glitch Hero is a 2D adventure game for kids out now on Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and the Nintendo Switch.

A strange glitch has trapped Ada’s father inside Codeland and it is up to Ada to rescue him. Luckily, ada is a bright young girl who knows a thing or two about coding. With the power of the Hammer.exe program and her knowledge of arrhythmical and loops, she will solve puzzles, destroy viruses, fix bugs, and save the day.

Gameplay

Ada can move around the world using her trusty hammer to defend herself against the bugs and viruses that are creating chaos in Codeland. The game plays like a simple top down hack and slash with a few puzzles and an interesting looping mechanic to break up the monotony. Occasionally players will have to create a loop or arrhythmical to solve a puzzle. Players are given a set number of actions (move, turn, attack) and a set number of spaces to move through. Players learn to build a loop as they load up a series of commands to get Ada through a puzzle.

Review

Glitch Hero is an adorable little puzzle game that is fun and wholesome, but it is on the easy side. If you’re looking for a good game for your kids that is inoffensive, fun, and educational, Glitch Hero is a fantastic option. The game has a cute and cozy artstyle, a fun and interesting story, and decent gameplay. The top-down hack-and-slash gameplay is engaging and well-designed. The loop puzzles are interesting and help the game stand out against others in the genre. The game aims to teach kids a fundamental understanding of loops, algorithms, and logic, and I believe it is a successful attempt.

As far as the challenge goes, there are three difficulties geared toward different age groups. While I am sure the intended audience will find the challenge adequate and engaging, veteran gamers will find this game too easy. Veteran players can enjoy the cozy vibe, but the lack of challenge might be the deal breaker. But if you need something for your young kids that is fun and is Steam Deck compatible, check out Glitch Hero.

LocoMotive Review: A Must-Play Murder Mistery Puzzle Game

What is Locomotive?

Locomotive is a point and click puzzle mystery game available now on the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam and GOG.

Lacy Uterwald has invited her closest friends and relatives onboard the luxurious Reuss Express for a night of revelry. It is a night full of food, booze, music, and unfortunately, murder. Right as she is getting ready to announce the changes in her will, the light goes out, and so does hers. Now three unsuspecting strangers, a lawyer, a spy, and an amature detective, find themselves in the middle of a crime scene. Play as Arthur, Diana, and Herman as you gather clues, solve puzzles, and find the murderer. Can you figure out who done it?

Gameplay

Locomotive is a simple point and click puzzle narrative game. Players explore the train looking for clues, solving puzzles, and piecing together a narrative. The player will progress through the story and gain access to more of the train by solving the different problems that arise. Picking or crafting items, talking to guests, or interacting with the environment in certain ways will trigger events that will advance the story. The trick is finding the correct order, but there is a helpful hint mechanic available if players get stuck.

Review

2024 has been a very good year for noir games, and Locomotive is easily my favorite. The game has a fun aesthetic, a great mystery, and solid gameplay.

I love the game’s art style. I love the effective use of pixel art and how creative it got with the cut scenes. The soundtrack is fantastic, and it was always setting the perfect mode. Lastly, I appreciate all the attention put into the world-building because this game was such a delight to explore.

Moving away from the aesthetic, Locomotive has a fun and quirky narrative that is worth at least one playthrough. I love the silly tone, I appreciate the humor, and the mystery is solid. People who read a lot of noir can figure out who the killer is early on, but it doesn’t matter because the journey is too much fun. Best of all, the players will be carried through the story by a cast of amazing actors who truly bring the story to life. If you enjoy detective noir dramas, you’re not finding one better.

Most importantly, Locomotive is fun. Exploration can feel a little repetitive, especially if you get stuck, but the story makes it worth it. The puzzles are all creative and manageable. There might be a few that will require hints, but none of them are impossible. I love the casual pace of the mystery, and love even more that I can play Locomotive on my Steam Deck.

What is Void Sols?

Void Sols is a top down minimilistic souls-like out now on PC.

You find yourself imprisoned, about to be slaughtered like a common rat when a powerful light washes over you, granting you the power to fight back. With your newfound gifts and any weapon you pick up along the way, fight your way to freedom. What will be your weapon of choice? Will you ever taste freedom, or are you destined to die in this maze?

Gameplay

Players control a triangle and guide it through a seemingly endless maze. They must effectively use the weapons and skill they find along the way to survive the danger that seems to lurk around every corner. Like most souls-like games, players will need to grind a lot of the same mobs, slowly making their way deeper into the dungeon. The game features campfires where they can rest, level up, and reset the mobs. Most importantly, players have the flexibility to build their character to fit their play style. There is a good amount of customization when it comes to weapon types, buffs, and abilities. I am sure there is a correct way min max a character, but I built what I thought was fun.

Review

Void Sols is fantastically soul-like, and I recommend it to everyone. I am a huge fan of the minimalistic style choice, the amazing soundtrack, and the fun and engaging gameplay. While the minimalism makes the game look like a casual souls-like, the game requires enough strategy to keep things engaging. Mastering combat will take a bit of effort.

Like other games in the genre, it can feel repetitive. Better players will be able to breeze through the game, but the filthy casuals like me will have to grind out the same mobs until they are strong enough to move on. I found the repetition soothing, but it is important to note that this game is repetitive by design. That said, it is not a soul-crushing grind.

Combat in this game feels fantastic. The developers masterfully translate the intricacies of combat into a solid minimalistic package. Combat requires enough skill to be engaging, but it won’t alienate the newcomers. The weapons all feel unique, and it was fun to explore the different styles. Upgrades and leveling felt impactful, and I enjoyed the rate of progression. Enemies all felt unique and were constantly forcing me to adapt to new tactics, and the boss fights were all creative and fun.

Void Sols is a fantastic casual souls-like for the people who want to hop into the genre but without the commitment. The game is fun with some solid flavor and engaging gameplay. Best of all, it is Steam Deck compatible.

What is Once Upon a Dungeon Infinity?

Once Upon a Dungeon: Infinity is a turn based roguelike out now on Steam.

The call of adventure sends its siren song across the land, seducing eager adventurers to the mouth of the dungeon. Crawl through the darkness, fight off monsters, avoid traps, and free it from its treasure. The journey will be perilous, but you as an industrious adventurer have potential. Craft the tools of the trade, conquer this delve, and claim your spot in history. Do you have what it takes?

Gameplay

Players move through procedurally generated dungeons a square at a time. Each action is a turn and every creature in range of the player takes a turn at the same time.

Once Upon a Dungeon: Infinity is a cute hack-and-slash that offers enough of a challenge to keep things interesting. Combat is as simple as clicking an enemy, but players still need to move efficiently and find the right gear. I am sure there is an optimal build, but I built whatever was fun.

Players can craft useful items and upgrade existing ones, provided they have the knowledge and materials. For those seeking a challenge, there is a mode where death is permanent and enemies can attack from any direction.

Review

Once Upon a Dungeon: Infinity is an interesting title with a few issues but a lot of heart. First off, the game is a little too dark. I believe the intent was to emulate the darkness of the dungeon, but I think they overdid it. There are also a few bugs that are hard to ignore. I noticed a few stutters and frame drops, but nothing that made the game unplayable. I almost gave up on the game because of the lack of polish and awkwardness, but I am glad I didn’t.

Once Upon a Dungeon: Infinity has a solid core. The game is a casual dungeon-crawling done right. The procedurally generated maps work fine, and they offer enough of a challenge to keep players engaged. I love that there is a perma-death mode that can be toggled because it makes things more intense, and it is the only way I will play this game moving forward.

Once Upon a Dungeon is a cute and simple roguelike with a neat crafting mechanic and a lot of potential. If you don’t the roughness that comes with an early-access game, make sure you add it to your wishlist and check out the demo!

What is New Arc Line?

New Arc Line is a steampunk RPG currently on Steam Early Access.

Many have been lured to the new world for a new life and abundant opportunity. Every day, boats empty with hopeful faces and ambitious hearts. But something isn’t quite right. People disappear each day and there are rumours of something sinister brewing in the shadows.

You landed on these shores like many before you, but you come with your agenda. You’ve come to deliver a bit of contraband and find yourself wrapped in the middle of something bigger than yourself. Make your way through this industrializing city as you complete quests, solve puzzles, and fight off anyone who gets in your way. What will your journey uncover? What trouble have you gotten yourself into?

Gameplay

New Arc Line plays like a tabletop RPG. Players build their party of noteworthy characters, perform skill checks to complete tasks and engage in turn-based combat. The choices a player makes and the results of various skill checks impact the story, so think carefully and roll a balanced team.

Combat feels like playing a tabletop RPG, albeit a little clunky. Characters in a player’s party each have their own initiative and action economy. Combat is over when certain tasks are completed, or the party wipes.

Review

New Arc Line has a roughness to it that can’t be ignored. While the game looks great, the performance isn’t always good. Combat for example is clunky, with noticeable stutters that can make the camera go crazy at times. It is not unplayable, but a few tweaks here would be much appreciated. This game also has issues with its voice acting. There are a few times where the actors are switched, or AI is used. I understand the recording may not be done yet, but it is disorienting. Finally, the quests can be a bit boring. This game has a lot of fetch quests, which is fine until it isn’t. The story and flavor are what kept me playing, but sometimes it takes a little too long to get to the point.

That said, I found New Arc Line an enjoyable game, and can’t wait to see a better version. While combat was clunky, it worked well enough. I also enjoyed making skill checks and feeling that uncertainty that came with each role. While the animation does look wonky, the world and artstyle look cool. I would have loved to see more of the world, but exploration is restricted.

If you enjoy tabletop RPG’s and want something similar on your computer, New Arc Line is a solid contender. The biggest issue this game has going against it is the lack of polish, but the game is still in early access. There is still time for the team to make improvements. If you don’t mind the roughness, and want to support the making of a solid RPG, you can get your copy of New Arc Line on Steam for $19.99. If you would rather wait for the better version, make sure the game is in your Wishlist.
