Worlds Reminder

As a reminder, worlds is coming up in June so make sure you are grinding those points efficiently. Tickets are still on sale and it would be a good idea to start planning accommodations.

Distorted Reflections

Distorted Reflections has been leaked for a July release, and it looking like the magical girl set I didn’t know I needed in my life. The set will focus on the Guardian and Ranger classes, with a whimsical flavor I am most excited about.

The set takes archivist to Wonderland, a world ruled by the Queen of Heats. If you are a fan of the literary classic, this might be the set for you.

The set will introduce 222 unique cards, with 234 foil variations. This will be a 24 twelve pack booster box. MSRP:

  • Pack: $4.49
  • Box: 107.99

As a reminder, 1st Edition boxes will include unique art, so make sure you buy in early. Once it’s gone, its gone.

Ciel, Mirage’s Grave Starter Deck

Ciel will hit the format as one of the sets two starter decks. Ciel is a fire/umbra deck launching with a MSRP of $14.99.

Diana Moonpiercer Starter Deck

Diana is back, and with a new flavor. She is still a ranger, but this time fighting using the Water and Astra elements. Hopefully this will bring her back into the scene. The starter deck also MSRPs at $14.99. I am very excited to see what the CSR for this line looks like.

The Last Apprentice – Chapter 3: Welcome to Old Town

Mila lies motionless surrounded by piles of trash. A rat scurries around her, but she doesn’t notice. Minutes go by before her senses begin their return. First, the sounds of the city pierce the silence of her shock until it becomes a deafening cacophony of noise. Then the smells of the alley make their assault. An overpowering aroma of rott assaults her senses and sends her puking. She reaches for support and finds none. A yellow liquid evacuates her stomach and mixes with a mysterious mixture of liquids leaking from somewhere within the pile.

“Get the fuck out of here!” A disembodied voice shouts from somewhere above her. The sound of a heavy object lands nearby with a heavy thud. The threat is enough to raise her from her shock. It takes all her strength to get to her feet. She picks up her bag, clutches at her spellbook, and makes her shaky retreat from the alley. Her feet feel heavy as she maneuvers over the piles of trash.

She falls a few times, but eventually, she exits into a busy street. A dense crowd moves in both directions, their voices merging in an incoherent babble. The buildings disappear into the dense cloud of smog above them. The face of each building is covered in neon signs and digital billboards advertising casinos, brothels, and other vices.

Mila joins the current. Her hands shake. Her eyes dart between oddities. This was nothing like home. Half-naked men and women call from doorways and windows. “Comon mami, I’ll take care of you.” She steps over dazed junkies who stare blankly into space, and others who seem lifeless behind their VR headsets. She walks around makeshift campfires of men and women who glare at her with hostile intent. “I got what you need!” A man posted by one of the lamplight yells as he flashes a strange vile.

Her heart begins to race. People bump up against her as they move around her. The smoke chokes her. She gasps for air but nothing seems to fill her lungs. She panics and runs for the nearest ally. She finds a space away from the madness to catch her breath. The noise carries into the alley, but at least she has room to breathe. She sits up against a wall. The cool feel of the wall relaxes her. The darkness around her relaxes her. She breathes deeply. Even the putrid smell of the alley relaxes her.

“Looks like we got a fresh one,” a raspy voice reaches from the darkness.

Another voice giggles. Two figures emerge from the shadows. One is a slender rat-faced man with long greasy hair. His skin is covered with acne and scars. His clothes fit baggy on his slender body and he walks in a hunch. A beast of a man walks behind him. He sports the same greasy haircut but walks with a confident sway. He seems to barely fit the alley, and even at this distance, he towers over Mila. The two stop a few feet away. Mila clutches at her book.

“You’re new here so I’ll fill you in on how things work her.” The slender one continues. He flashes a yellow smile. “This is our turf and you are here illegally.” He takes a step forward. His musk is stale. Mila tries to back away, but the wall blocks her exit. Her heart races.

“Please…” she lets out.

“Hey, we’re reasonable guys. Just give us your stuff, and we’ll leave.”

“But..” She begins to protest, but the words fail to come.

The slender man crouches to where he is slightly above her. His smell is worse than the ally. He flashes his yellowed crooked teeth. “We can do this the easy way, or the hard way mija. We’re leaving with your stuff.” The giant cracks his knuckles above them. Milla lets go of the bag as the rat-faced man takes it. His free hand points at the book. “That too.”

Mila clutches it tightly, bringing it close to her. “I can’t…” she makes out.

His hand grabs at her. It feels bony and his skin scratches at her. “That’s not how this works.” His fingers grip her wrists tightly and pull at her violently. Tears begin to swell in her eyes as she tries to pull away. Her foot flies instinctively at the man, pushing him away with a sudden kick. She turns to run down the alley, but a powerful hand comes down on her before she can take her first step. The giant lifts her. She struggles uselessly under his grip. The rat-faced man scrambles to his feet. He appears flustered. “Now you’ve done it!”

“You’re done Rata! Scurry back to your hole.” A third voice reaches from the shadow. Another slender finger emerges behind it. He wears a plain white baseball cap and his black shirt and jeans are a few sizes too big. His right arm is black with ink of a tattoo depicting a skeleton. It wraps around his forearm. Another tattoo reaches across his neck at his chin.

“Fuck off Sad Boy. This doesn’t concern you.”

“Business with my client concerns me plenty.” Sad Boy stands at the end of the alley.

“We found her first, her stuffs ours!” The slender man protests.

“That’s not what my friend heard,” Sad Boy rebukes, lifting his shirt to reveal the polished handle of a revolver. A small silver cross hangs from a chain attached to the bottom.

Rata looks at the gun pensively for a moment before letting out a frustrated growl. “Fine. Lets go.” The pair turn to leave.

“The bag stays,” Sad Boy adds. Rata tosses it violently at the wall without looking back.

Sad Boy goes over to pick up the bag. Mila watches him from her place on the ground. “You good?” He asks as he reaches down to give her a hand. Mila eyes his hand suspiciously. “If I wanted to hurt you, I would have done it by now.” He helps Mila to her feet. “Can you talk?”

“I can talk..” Mila replies, almost in a whisper.

“Good, this makes things a little easier.” He smiles. “I am here to provide you with an invaluable service. For a small fee, I will be your guide, protector, and mentor and help you to become a respectable member of old town…” he pauses and eyes her up and down. “You have money right?”

Mila nods remembering the envelope her grandmother handed her before pushing her into this nightmare.

“Perfect!” He clasps his hands loudly. “Welcome to Old Town!”

Path of Fury Review: A VR Kung-Fu Adventure

Disclaimer

I was sent a free copy of Path of Fury: Episode I – Tetsuo’s Tower to review for my blog. While I am very grateful for the opportunity, I won’t let it sway my opinions on the game. This will be my honest review.

Shameless Self-Promotions

If you’re looking for a way to upgrade your aesthetic, check out the new Epomaker HE75 Mag or the KiiBoom Moonshadow V2. Check out my latest review of the Fifine M9 Microphone System. I’ve also started a web novel that I update weekly.

What is Path of Fury?

Path of Fury is a on the rails action-packed VR adventure available now on the Meta Store.

These streets aren’t safe. Violence spreads throughout the city as gangs fight over territory. An endless supply of drugs floods the streets, killing its people and fueling the violence. At the center of this chaos Tetsuo. While the city burns, Tetsuo sits on top of his tower and profits from the suffering. Many have tried to stop him, but endless supply of loyal soldiers train endlessly to keep him safe. You are the only one in this city who cares enough to see his reign end. Use your martial arts to take on his army, make your way through his tower, and finally end this terrible era. Do you have what it takes?

Review

Players are moved through the story on a rail, fighting endless waves of bad guys in what I have to say is a fantastic love letter to 80’s era Chinese Kung-fu movies. If you enjoyed the genre of film, you will appreciate how well the the game captures the spirit of these films and brings them to a modern lens. The tone is a little cheesy, but it gives the move its charm.

Combat in Path of Fury will be the game’s main draw and hurdle. It is simple system where players punch and parry their way through the tower to experience the story. There might be a strategy to combat, but a lot of the time it felt like I was flailing around wildly as I made my way through the campaign. While it isn’t the worst system, it does feel like a lot more work than it is worth. If you need an excuse to be more active, enjoy a solid story, then the game is a solid option. Otherwise, the combat system is a deal breaker. When compared to other fighting games available for VR, you have better options with worse stories.

If you’re looking for a game that will get you moving and like the genre, go for it. Otherwise, its going to be a game you put down after the novelty wears off. You can pick up Path of Fury now on the Meta Store for 9.99.

Is Mortal Rite Worth Playing? Honest Review

Disclaimer

I was sent a free copy of Mortal Rite to review for my blog. While I am very grateful for the opportunity, I won’t let it sway my opinions.

What is Mortal Rite?

Mortal Rite is a class-based Souls-like available on Steam Early Access.

You have been granted the ability to take over different champions and use them to defeat the evil that plagues the land. Make your way through a monster infested land, master your powers, and defeat the bosses. Will you be the hero this world needs, or will you fall to the darkness like so many before you?

Gameplay

Players will fight their way through a dungeon, learning to harness their powers. This journey can be made alone, but the game supports up to five player co-op. The first hero a player selects is free, but players will need to buy additional characters with farmable resources. Each character has its unique playstyle can can be further customized through the game’s attribute system.

Combat is straight forward and follows the traditional Souls-like formula. Players get access to a heavy/light attack, a doge, block, and a few character specific abilities to change things up. Dying resets players to checkpoints, and killing the bosses progresses the story. Aside from the class system, the game doesn’t do much too different.

Review

Mortal Rite shows its players that it is still an Early Access game. Booting up the game, players will immediately notice that the game isn’t finished. The biggest issue I have with the game is the performance. Frames drop, FPS isn’t great, and worst of all, combat isn’t smooth. I get that bugs can be part of the charm, but not when combat feels as clunky as it does in Mortal Rite. Swimming feels slow and looks bad, and the lack of fluid motion will get players killed. A lot of the time I felt like I was fighting the controls and the game more than I was fighting my enemies.

I could forgive a janky unfinished combat system if the lore were good, but it isn’t. The story feels a little generic, and it did little to keep my attention. At least the characters seem thematic, but I wouldn’t play this game just for the characters.

Even if you like backing Early Access games, I would wait for a couple more updates. Even then, I would wait for a full release because you simply have better options at this price point. Go play Void Sols instead. It’s cheaper, better, and it has a demo.

You can pick up Mortal Rite on Steam for $24.99.

Drakantos Beta Announcement and a few Key updates

Shameless Self-Promotions

If you’re looking for a way to upgrade your aesthetic, check out the new Epomaker HE75 Mag or the KiiBoom Moonshadow V2. Check out my latest review of the Fifine M9 Microphone System. I’ve also started a web novel that I update weekly.

Introduction

It has been a while since I’ve posted about Drakantos, but after reading the latest dev log, I had to post something. I’ll be summarizing the bits of the log that were most interesting to me, so make sure you check out the official post for all the details. Make sure you add Drakantos to your wishlist!

Yuki Gameplay Teaser

I was planning on playing support when this game finally releases, but all of the teased DPS rolls look like a lot of fun. Yuki is no exception and if you’re looking for a high mobility champion and don’t mind listening the voice, Yuki is going to be a beast.

The Delay

The game has been delayed, but for good reason. The original morphing into something different because the devs seem to be listening to the community. Make sure you join the official Discord to join the conversation. Lets cover a few of the changes that I am most excited about.

Customization

The original plan for customization were the skins players can get from the cash shop or the battle pass. I know the idea of monetization is going to raise some flags, but the devs need to get paid. We can only hope it isn’t predatory. Customization will still be limited the set skins, but players are allowed a few small tweeks to create a unique look. Players will be able to change the dye of items and characters, and even change hairstyles and armor pieces. How much a character can be customized is yet to be seen, but it is a nice feature for those who enjoy the fashion side of MMOs.

Open World

Drakantos was originally supposed to be a dungeon crawler MMO, one with a central hub and dungeons and content for players to queue for. The devs have decided to expand their world and allow players to explore what the new world has to offer. I assume there will be limitations because it is still a mobile game, but I am all for running around the world, questing, and finding treasure.

Artifacts and Trophies

The system I am most excited for is the artifact system. Artifacts are items players collect throughout their journey that give characters unique active abilities. This gives players a way to customize their character and shake up the combat. I am sure there will be a meta for this after a while, but it will be interesting to see what they come up. I’ll be gunning for the wackiest build I can find.

The artifact system has the potential of being a very cool system. Ideally, assuming the balance is there, players will have to switch between artifacts depending on the activity. I just hope the grind isn’t bad for unlocking multiple artifacts. This is a great way to shake up a season between character releases, and a quick way to shake up the meta when necessary. We’ll have to see what they do with it, but I am hopeful.

Mini Bosses

I love the art for this game, and these mini bosses are no exception. This game has a ton of flavor and I can’t wait to explore all of it.

Pets and Mounts

The more art I see for pets and mounts, the more excited I become for the system. There are a few I wouldn’t mind chasing, especially the mimic pet! I know this won’t be for everyone, but it is cool to see some variety.

Emotes

What is finished?

Looks like a few of the systems are done, which means we are one step closer to a playable version.

  • Loot Tables
  • Quest logs
  • Databook – Lore and Locations
  • Bestiary
  • Achievements

Beta Announcement!

In the best news we’ve gotten all year, the closed beta is planned for sometime in July. That means we will finally get to play the game, and I for one can’t wait! Make sure you are following the official Discord to stay up to date on the news on signups. Don’t forget to add Drakantos to your wishlist!

Yasha: Legends of the Demon Blade Demo Impressions

Disclaimer

I was sent the Yasha: Legends of the Demon Blade demo to review for my blog. I will try to be a little more lenient since the game isn’t out yet, but these will be my honest impressions of the game.

What is Yasha: Legends of the Demon Blade?

Yasha: Legends of the Demon Blade is an action roguelike coming to PC and all major consoles Apr 23, 2025.

The Nine-tailed fox demon have invaded the human realm, inciting chaos and tilting the fragile balance between the two realms. Three brave souls (an immortal ninja, a demon samurai, and an Oni emissary) hear the call to action and find themselves in the adventure of a lifetime. Now they must each fight their way through endless waves of demons to put an end to this terror. Do they have what it takes to restore peace to this world?

Gameplay

Players choose between one of the three heroes, each with a unique story and flavor, and fight their way through waves of enemies. Like most games in the genre, players will start their run at a central hub where they can buy upgrades for their heroes. During a run, players fight against unique demons and bosses to collect currency and materials for new upgrades and abilities. A run ends when a player’s health reaches zero, and players can only progress through the story by defeating the various bosses. The hardest part about this game is choosing what flavor of combat you want to experience the story in.

Impressions

Yasha: Legends of the Demon Blade is a solid action RPG. The game has great art, and the Edo period aesthetic fits very well. Combat feels a bit slow and clunky at times, but it generally fine. All three characters feel different and are fun to play, and upgrading them feels impactful. The demons all have unique flavor and the boss fights are fun and creative. Upgrades do require a bit of a grind, but it never felt too bad.

As far as story goes, its fine, but the writing can be a little awkward. There are some lines that try a little too hard to be quirky, but it isn’t a bad read. It at least helped keep my attention long enough to grind things out. Overall, I will need to see how the final product performs before I can recommend it. As it stands, there is no reason to pick Yasha over something like Realm of Ink unless you really like the flavor and art style. If the final version can make combat feel just a little smoother, I’ll be ready to give it an endorsement. I will be trying to get my hands on the full version. Until then, go try the demo and see for yourself. Don’t forget to add it to your wishlist!

Upgrade Your Setup with theKiiBoom Moonshadow V2

Disclaimer

KiiBoom sent me the Moonshadow V2 for free to review for my blog. While I am very grateful for the opportunity, I won’t let it sway my opinions. This will be my honest review. Make sure you also check out my review for the Kiiboom Breeze 75 if you’re in the market for a very pretty keyboard.

What’s in the box?

  • Moonshadow V2
  • USB-C to USB-A Braided Cable
  • Key/Switch Puller
  • 2 Extra Switches
  • Mac Keys
  • User Guide
  • Extra Plate

Features

The KiiBoom Moonshadow V2 is a stylish 75% mechanical keyboard that is ready to upgrade your aesthetic. It well designed aluminum body gives it its durable construction and its weight will keep it from sliding across your table. The keyboard comes in black, pink, and silver. All schemes look great, but I chose the black because I liked the mascot on the escape and enter keys.

The keyboard features 81 keys and a knob that can easily be swapped so it always matches your aesthetic. There is also a nice and subtle backlight preprogrammed with a good amount of profiles to accent any aesthetic. You can also turn it off if you really want to. As far as performance goes, you can’t go wrong with the Moonshadow V2. All 81 keys can be easily remapped or programed through QMK and VIA to maximize any workflow, and the low latency with both wired and wireless connections is nothing to scoff at. Coupled with its powerful 4000mAh battery, and you have a solid workhorse.

Sound Test

Review

The Moonshadow V2 is a premium feeling keyboard at a reasonable price. This keyboard is ready to upgrade both the aesthetic and performance of any setup. The color layout in all three options are so good, choosing one will be the hardest choice. I got mine in black and am very impressed with how vibrant the colors are and how well the mascot is printed on the keys. The manufacturing is very clean and sturdy, and the keyboard has a good amount of heft to it. It feels like it will last me enough to make it a bargain.

The keyboard performed extremely well. There was no noticeable ghosting or latency, and everything mostly worked as intended. I did have to swap out one of the switches early on in my testing because it stopped working, but the swap was very easy to make. That said, the Moonshadow V2 has one of the most satisfying experience I’ve had in a mechanical keyboard. It has one the most satisfying and creamiest sounds, and the keys feel amazing under your fingers. It may not be the most ergonomic layout, but it doesn’t matter because it feels so good to type with.

If you’re looking for a mechanical keyboard, the Moonshadow V2 is the perfect place to start. It comes in good colors, the performance is solid, and the typing experience is perfect. I may have gotten unlucky with the defect, but the rest of the experience more than made up for it. I recommend you pick one up today!

You can pick up the KiiBoom Moonshadow V2 in all three colors on the official KiiBoom website!
